Arne Sønderbæk’s company AJ Energi & Strø was one of the first to start using rapestraw pellets as bedding.
Since then the use of all sorts of straw and wood pellets as bedding has increased rapidly.
Some years ago, Arne stopped working as a pig breeder and had only empty stables left. The stables quickly filled up with machinery intended to produce straw pellets for fuel, but manufacture was unsuccessful because of the quantity of ash. Along the way Arne found that the rape straw pellets were highly absorbent and that horse owners were looking for pellets as a more efficient form of bedding.
Then the wheels started turning. We became aware that the entire agricultural industry was looking for new and more efficient bedding material. The product worked not only for horse owners but also for cattle, poultry, pig and mink farmers.
Contributing to a dry and green environment for livestock and to the wellbeing of both animals and humans has been a source of great satisfaction for Arne Sønderbæk and AJ Energi & Strø at a time when reducing pollution and fertiliser use is a high priority for the whole world. We are proud to use a product straight from the fields without anything added; it is a production material that is rarely used, and the finished product is able to return to the field as manure.
An exiting journey
Arne Sønderbæk and the employees of AJ Energi & Strø have been on a journey throughout the seven years of the company’s existence and development. Over that time, many ideas have been put forward, some of them better than others. We are not done yet; our aim is to continue innovating and to keep following the demands of the market, but at the same time we must not bite off more than we can chew.
Developing our products and holding our own in a market full of known and older brands has been a tough journey. So that we can continue to compete against the bigger companies we have needed evidence and tests from institutes and local farmers and we have had to get people talking about our products.
This has placed our business on a sound footing: we are not marketing a trend but selling a product that farmers have found to improve their overall standards and economics. We are extremely grateful to all the participants who have been willing to test our products and tell their story; without their help we would still be struggling today. Over time, we have knocked on many doors and made a lot of calls, and if we had not been persistent AJ Energi & Strø might not have existed today.
Today we have excellent cooperative relationships with some of the largest distributers of agricultural equipment for farmers, in Denmark and elsewhere. More and more companies, including some of the big ones, are contacting us about including our products in their ranges and veterinarians are recommending our products when they visit farmers. All of this is very satisfying for us.
We value our customers and know that great service is very important. We therefore strive to deliver your order on time and ensure that we meet the high standards you are accustomed to. Furthermore, we are very interested in creating the best environment in the stables for better animal welfare and better human wellbeing. Satisfied animals and customers ensure that our work has a future.
I wish you all well, Arne Sønderbæk, owner
